In the MMORPG City of Heroes, Pandora's Box is stored near the Well of the Furies (also known as the Fountain of Zeus) in a cave hidden away and lost to time. It contains The Golden Light of Creation, all of humanity's potential for the previous thousand years, and upon being opened, releases that potential to the world at large. In the back story of the game, it is opened in the early 20th century by Marcus Cole and Stefan Richter (later known as Statesman and Lord Recluse), who at the same time had drank from the Well of the Furies. While the Well of the Furies transformed them into nearly immortal super beings, the opening of the Box caused a dramatic increase in the number of superhumans worldwide and is directly responsible for their proliferation to this day.
